When you go on vacation, where do you want to go? Perhaps you want to spend a few days in the sun and by the beach, or perhaps you want to visit a contemporary city with plenty of eateries, retail centers, and tall skyscrapers. Here are 5 places in Mexico that we believe you should think about visiting on your next vacation, in case you haven’t decided where to go yet.
In the center of Mexico is this enchanting colonial city. Its name is derived from two significant historical figures: Ignacio Allende, one of the leaders of Mexico’s independence movement, and Juan de San Miguel, a friar from the 16th century.
1. Jalcomulco, Veracruz
This state, which is on the east coast of the nation, has a long and fascinating history because it was the site of the first landings by Spanish conquistadors. It also contains a sizable portion of the Gulf of Mexico coastline.
Veracruz, like practically every other Mexican city, boasts a stunning historic downtown that is full of color and activity. The architecture, museums, restaurants, and locally created artwork will keep you occupied for hours. The “old” part of the city is this one; the newer, Boca del RÃ, is home to shopping malls, upscale eateries, and cafes. Both have warm people, a welcoming atmosphere, traditional music performances, artistic events, and more, despite their apparent differences.
There are also a variety of ecotourism activities available in Veracruz. Jalcomulco is a small town with stunning scenery where you can engage in extreme sports like ziplining, rafting, rappelling, and many more. If you’re looking for something more sedate, there are also walks through the forest and camping beneath the stars. 2. Tulum, Quintana Roo
The beaches and warm, turquoise waters of the Riviera Maya are unmatched. Let’s be sincere. The Caribbean Sea comes to mind first when we imagine the ideal beach location, isn’t that right?
Tulum is well-known both domestically and abroad, and tourists from all over the world come here each year. A major benefit of a location such as the Yucatán peninsula is its abundance of cenotes, which are naturally occurring sinkholes that are safe for swimming and reveal underground groundwater.
You’ll see people riding bikes everywhere they go every day. Try it out for at least a day! You can explore Tulum’s entirety on a bike without having to pay extra for transportation if you ride here. In addition, it’s a fantastic way to take advantage of the weather and tan.

3. Cabo San Lucas
Discovering breathtaking islands, islets, and coastal regions is what makes an adventure, so your first stop should be the Islands and Protected Areas of the Gulf of California, a UNESCO World Heritage site. There is ample access to the UNESCO site when you visit Cabo San Lucas, which is located in the Mexican state of Baja California Sur. You can do everything here, including swinging bridge races and rock climbing and rappelling. Additionally, 39% of all marine mammal species and 1/3 of all marine cetacean species worldwide are found here.
It’s time to unwind after a full day of adventures. Made in Cabo San Lucas, tequila, the first distilled spirit in North America, is among the strongest and smoothest in the world. It dates back to the 1500s. After taking a tour of the facilities and learning how the blue agave plant is used to make tequila, you can get several shots. But exercise caution! They have a high alcohol content, and it’s simple to consume too much of them. Finding your way back to your cruise ship or resort after the fact could be the adventure!
4. The Island Of Cozumel
Several miles east of the Yucatan peninsula lies the island of Cozumel on the Mexican coast. It is surrounded by beautiful reefs, and the Cozumel Reefs National Marine Park offers some of the greatest scuba diving on the planet. With over 500 fish species and over 26 types of coral, exploring the waters here is incredible. In fact, Cozumel is home to a small portion of the Mesoamerican Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system in the world.
There are also top-notch resorts, but proceed with caution. Since this is a vacation spot, some of the food will be provided by only local vendors, and people with metabolisms from developed nations might not be able to handle every kind of food that is offered.
A word of caution: stay away from the chorizo. You might not want to go on that adventure, even if you enjoy unusual experiences and tastes.
5. Cancun

It’s a popular travel destination with a thriving nightlife, immaculate beaches, and access to numerous tours through the thick inland underbrush. It also offers hidden gems like the famed Chichen Itza pyramid, the historic walled city of Tulum, and more.
